Matthew

Chapter 19

28.    And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory in the regeneration¹, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, ruling the twelve tribes of Israel.

28.  ¹Jesus is borrowing or alluding to a prior rebirth of the world found in Psalms 90:2 that occurred when the flood happened. Noah sent out the dove which is when the Holy Spirit was out there re-creating all the plant life that was destroyed by the flood. This time he did it in 7 days.

Chapter 24

39.    And they knew not (were completely unaware of what was happening) until the flood from the ¹sea [²geological upheaval - cataclysm] came and took them all away (³suddenly, swiftly and violently);  so shall also be the coming of the Son of man  [unexpected judgment]⁴.

39.  Jesus is referring to the flood of Noah (Verse 38) and is quoting exactly from Job 22:16 in the Hebrew.  They didn't understand, recognize, perceive or realize what was taking place until it was too late. Hence, they were cut off prematurely.

¹ kataklusmos means a violent agitation and surge of the sea because it's a cognate of kludon and kluzo.  Check Strong's or Thayer's.

² The etymology of Cataclysm according to Webster's 1828 dictionary is the Greek kataklusmos.

³Because of other verses of parable teaching  (Mat. 24:43; 50) the ideas of unexpectedly, suddenly, without warning, unaware all come into play and the speedy riddance of them mentioned in Zephaniah and NT meaning of his coming in Rev. 22:20 which is quickly, swiftly, speedily.  Keep in mind there is nothing swift about 40 days of rain. Thayer's lexicon mentions violent both in the word kataklusmos cognates kludon, kluzo and in the Greek word for "taken away."

The nuances and broad meaning found in relevant passages incl. Rev. 10:6 as relates to Job 22:16 when Michael (Rev.10:1) does it the second time in Isa. 24:1 (e.g. the earth removes out of her place - Ezek.13) and all of the consequential events take place are many:  There is hail, lightning, thunder, earth quake (earth shaking), islands vanish, mountains fall, 24 hour time no longer (Zech.14:6,7)  etc. But the promise made in Isa.54:9 still stands and this time Michael rolls the earth half over slowly taking about 6 months to do it.

Primarily this verse is simply relaying the importance of being ready and expecting Christ's  return.
